Channels & messages
The Threads tab is real-time chat for the project. Conversations come in three kinds:
- Channels — open, topic-based rooms (shown with a
#), like# sprint-planning. Create one with a name, an optional description, and the members you want to invite. - Group chats — a conversation among a specific set of people.
- Direct messages — one-to-one chats; start one by searching for a person.
Sending a message
Type in the message box and press Enter to send, or Shift + Enter for a new line. Messages support rich text and code snippets, and you can attach files and images.
What you can do with a message
Hover a message for quick actions:
- React — add an emoji (👍 ❤️ 😂 😮 😢 🎉 🚀 👀); reactions update live and you can toggle yours off.
- Reply — reply to a specific message, and your reply shows a quoted preview of the one you're answering, so the thread of conversation stays clear.
- Pin — pin important messages. Pinned messages get their own panel and a banner with a count, so key info stays easy to find.
Find anything
Each conversation has its own search — open it from the header and search the message history to jump back to what was said.
Channel settings
A channel's settings let you manage its members (add or remove people) and delete the channel when it's no longer needed. Who can do what here is governed by your communication permissions.
Live by default
Messages, reactions, and pins all sync in real time across everyone in the conversation — no refreshing, no waiting.
