Tasks overview

A task is the core unit of work in Bluprint. Every task lives inside a project, and everything you track — what needs doing, who's doing it, when it's due, and how it connects to other work — hangs off the task.

The task editor is the single source of truth

Open any task and you get the task editor — one place that holds the task's full picture: its fields, subtasks, dependencies, comments, attachments, and a complete activity history. Whether you opened the task from the board, the Gantt chart, your dashboard, or search, you're looking at the same task editor.

One task, many views

The board, Gantt, and calendar are different views of the same tasks. Editing a task in any of them updates it everywhere — instantly, for everyone on the project.

Anatomy of a task

A task can carry all of the following:

TitleA short name for the work (required).
DescriptionThe detail — supports rich text.
StatusWhere the task is in its lifecycle. See Statuses & priorities.
PriorityHow urgent it is: Low, Medium, High, or Urgent.
AssigneesOne or more people responsible. See Assignees & watchers.
ReportersThe people who raised or own the request.
Start & due datesWhen work should begin and finish.
Estimate & timeStory-point estimate, estimated effort (e.g. 4h), and actual time spent.
Subtasks & checklistBreak the work down. See Subtasks & checklists.
DependenciesLinks to tasks that block or are blocked by this one.
LabelsFree-form tags for grouping and filtering.
Sprint & milestoneOptional ties to a sprint or a milestone.
ProgressA 0–100% completion indicator.
WatchersPeople who follow the task without being assigned.
Attachments & commentsFiles and discussion attached to the task.

You don't need to fill all of these in. A title and a status are enough to get started; everything else is there when the work calls for it.

What happens after you create a task

  • It appears on the project board in the column for its status, and on the Gantt chart if it has dates.
  • Assignees and watchers start receiving relevant notifications.
  • Every change from that point on is recorded in the task's activity feed.
